Mo and Amelia - Beatles-a-Day

Alberta Gold was delighted to welcome Mo and Amelia, who brought their Beatles-a-Day show on the road for a recent rehearsal. Barbershoppers looking for something to do at the beginning of the pandemic, Mo and Amelia decided to do a daily Beatles show on Facebook - over one year later they are still going strong and have not yet missed a day! It was a fun evening of sing along, "bits of tid" (Beatles trivia), a quiz and a lot of laughs. They even sang a Beatles birthday wish to one of our members who was celebrating her birthday that day!  You can check them out at https://www.facebook.com/beatlesaday.

Learning to practice at home!

Lisa Hills, from Westcoast Harmony Chorus and VITA quartet recently joined us with a presentation on practicing at home. She had lots of tips and tricks, right from motivating yourself to practice, to scheduling and making time for practice, to actual practice time and self coaching. Practicing at home is something many singers have struggled with during the pandemic, without the motivation of a weekly in-person rehearsal. Special projects make it easier, but Lisa gave us real ideas to put into practice.

Barbershop education comes in many forms!

Alberta Gold was thrilled to welcome Karri Quan on August 31 to start our chorus discussion regarding Diversity and Inclusion. Sweet Adelines International has embarked on a global journey to make this an organization that celebrates our differences, and makes all members feel welcomed, creating a culture of belonging so that all members can raise their voices in song together. Karri brought her expertise and facilitated a discussion about inclusion, raising awareness within our own chorus and setting us on a path to take our warm and welcoming chorus even further down the path of belonging! We can't wait to continue our journey!

2020 Board of Director

On June 22, 2020, Albert Gold installed our Board of Directors. It was a little different than our usual June party and installation, but was a meaningful affirmation of the dedication and effort these women make on behalf of our chorus. They represent the administrative aspects of chorus life - everything from finances to membership - and are to be commended for their efforts! Welcome to our 2020/21 Board of Directors!

Alberta Gold Online

Starting on Monday, April 6, 2020, Alberta Gold will move to online rehearsals. The leads and basses had a taste of what that feels like last night and it worked out just fine. Thanks to all the choruses, especially Lions Gate, who are pioneering the way for the rest of us - we are learning from you! We are looking forward to being "together" and perhaps even some singing!

Rehearsal Cancelled

Due to the COVID-19 virus, Alberta Gold has cancelled rehearsals until further notice. We will miss our annual St. Patrick's Day party, and will miss singing with our friends, but our foremost concern is for the health and safety of our members, families and those in our communities. This site will be updated when rehearsals are reinstated.

Education and Coaching

One of the advantages of being a member of Alberta Gold (or any other Sweet Adelines chorus) is the superb educational opportunities offered. Last weekend, at our annual retreat weekend, Alberta Gold had the pleasure of being coached by the incomparable Corinna Garriock. Corinna is a talented singer, arranger, judge, and a member of the 2012 Queens of Harmony, Martini. She worked with us on our competition songs (for May 2020), helping us to shape the sound and put together a solid interpretive plan. While she was doing that, she was teaching us the importance of basic things like proper singing posture, vocal quality for different parts, and how to make ourselves better singers individiually and as a unit.
