The Alberta Gold Chorus of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), is looking for a new director.

We began as a chapter of SAI in 1984, and have had a strong and committed base since then. Our chorus is a socially connected group of 28 members at present, ranging in age from 30 to 90, who treasure our internal friendships and value our social interactions - we like to have fun! We honour the past while striving for growth and sustainability for the future.

Alberta Gold loves to support the community by singing at seniors' residences and supporting local charity and community seasonal events.  We participate in Christmas celebrations, the BMO Windows on the West during Stampede, the Veterans Field of Crosses, and the CIBC Run for the Cure. We present a large production every few years (the last was in 2019), and compete regularly at regional competition.

In 2020 we explored our chorus culture, and set some chorus goals. The members identified personal responsibility for improving our vocal contribution to the chorus as a priority and a program to assist members in achieving their goals is being implemented by our music team. We aim to become a tighter unit vocally and to work on our visual communication with our audiences. In addition, we have struck a task force to examine diversity and inclusion at Alberta Gold, and are aiming to increase our community outreach.

We know that to thrive as a chorus, we need to grow our membership with younger members, which will require a coordinated effort across marketing, music and membership.  We want to improve our performance in our regional SAI competitions, and to keep putting on musical shows and presentations. Our most recent production “The Next Show,” earned us great positive audience response. It is important to Alberta Gold Chorus that we continue to be contributing members of the Barbershop Community.

During the pandemic lock-down, we rehearsed and connected via Zoom, and returned, masked, to regular rehearsals in October 2021. In spring of 2022 we removed our masks and returned to joyfully singing together. At this time, the chorus does require members to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and to stay home and participate online when unwell.

If you are interested in becoming part of Alberta Gold's journey as our Musical Director, please review the director roles and responsibilities and drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you.
